Amy has a combination of experiences that allow her to offer the students in her classes an environment where they can explore and enjoy their pregnancies and new babies in every aspect.
Active in the childbirth community in Calgary since 1999; Amy is a natural childbirth educator, pre and postnatal yoga teacher, AMI accredited “Assistant to Infancy”, and a mom – this last title defining the experience that has given her the most insight into living well, practicing patience, and love.
“When I had kids, I found the first two limbs of yoga without realizing it. The yamas and niyamas were what I felt brewing within me as a pregnant woman and a mother. Non-harming, truthfulness, purity, non-grasping, contentment, learning through self-experience, devotion to the divine in all being, the great love – it is all there, available always. We don’t have to have children to experience this, of course, but they sure make it easier. Children can be the greatest teachers of these qualities. Once I found a more physical expression of yoga, I was grateful for the ‘push’ that motherhood gave me into discovering myself. It allowed me to enter into a physical practice that put emotional and spiritual things into perspective. I am grateful also for the opportunity to share that possibility with others” The joy that Amy finds in the practice of yoga and the sharing of knowledge and stories about birth, babies, and family is infectious and inspiring. She integrates into her classes a sense of the wonder of life, and an awareness of the humble ways that children (our own and others’) teach us to be thankful more deeply and honestly than we ever knew possible.
